Honestly, I can't believe there's not a thread for this already.
This game is amazing by comparison to other Square Enix games. Sure, some of the characters share design to typical games like Kingdom Hearts (what with the anorexic Japanese kids with ridiculously spiky hair), but I think it's a damn good game in terms of game play, music, and storyline.
The interactive game play with the Pin Battle System is one of my most favorite aspects, because you're not just bashing buttons like other RPGs. All of the songs played in The World Ends With You as the soundtrack are always played with lyrics and that is a mold that was broken with this game because all of the background music isn't just instrumental. The game isn't presented in a fantasy world, because Shibuya is a very real place in Tokyo, Japan and the way the game takes place in an existing setting makes things intriguing. The story line is something that has probably been done before, but the way they executed was beautiful and I loved every part of it to the very end, because it was full of twists and unexpected events that always had you questioning things until the game was over...and even after that, you were left with other questions that would make you want to see another game made.
